Help for family members of drug addicts can be just as necessary as help for the addicts themselves. Some families need more than others and we are happy to provide that help.
We offer a full, intensive support system for families who feel they need more assistance than the weekly interfaces, advice and psycho-education our Sober Coach program provides. While it is often said that addiction is a family disease we are more interesting in healing and helping than using labels.
We understand the science behind addiction. Addiction can stress relationships to the breaking point, impact home and work life, family unity, mental health, physical health, finances, and overall relationship dynamics of all involved. Coping with addiction of a loved one can put family and friends under unusual stress. Normal routines are constantly being interrupted by unexpected or even frightening kinds of experiences that are part of living with problematic alcohol and other drug use. Many families can never feel safe again or not dread when the phone rings. What is being said often doesn’t match up with what you may sense, feel beneath the surface, or see right in front of your eyes when you loved returns home.
The way the family functions as a whole, individual relationships within the family and the way these radiate out to friends, school, and community become unhealthy and toxic as the addict or alcoholic succumbs to his illness and if s/he goes right back into the same home atmosphere with the same ways of reacting and interacting then success and happiness is not so likely - both for the family and for the addict.
